Welcome to the Emirates Collaboration for Residents in Emergency Medicine (ECREM), an interest group of the Emirates Society of Emergency Medicine (ESEM).

About ECREM

Background
Emergency Medicine is a rapidly evolving specialty in the Middle East. Currently, there are 7 active academic programs across the United Arab Emirates (UAE) that conduct post-graduate training in Emergency Medicine for Physicians who wish to specialize in this exciting and dynamic field. Rashid Hospital in Dubai, Tawam Hospital in Al Ain, Sheikh Khalifa Medical Center, Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, Zayed Military Hospital in Abu Dhabi, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi and the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) program in Sharjah all house a standardized 4-year Emergency Medicine training program that is recognized by and affiliated with the Arab Board of Emergency Medicine. The physicians-in-training enrolled in these programs are referred to as Emergency Medicine “Resident” Doctors.
As part of their academic curriculum, Emergency Medicine Residents engage in a number of activities, ranging from weekly intra-departmental meetings (termed ‘Academic Days’) to yearly conferences such as the Emirates Society of Emergency Medicine (ESEM) conference. Academic Days, in general, constitute hours away from clinical duties that are dedicated toward educational and interactive knowledge-building exercises. These Academic Days are therefore a vital component to each teaching program in their respective hospital. However, rarely do these programs have the opportunity to network amongst each other despite their relative physical proximity to each other in the UAE.

Vision
Our vision follows the slogan بالعلم نرقى , which translates to ‘With knowledge we ascend’. We believe that the sharing and dissemination of knowledge among peers and to others provides an environment where everyone receives the most benefit and through which the overall growth of Emergency Medicine in the community is possible.
What is ECREM?
The Emirates Collaboration for Residents in Emergency Medicine (ECREM) was established as a non-profit organization, registered as a sub-group of the Emirates Society of Emergency Medicine (ESEM), dedicated to promoting the development of Emergency Medicine training among resident doctors in the UAE. ECREM aims to provide a platform for Emergency Medicine Residents across all programs within the UAE to interact and coordinate with each other to promote knowledge sharing, develop inter-hospital relations, foster innovative new ideas and discussions as well as encourage overall growth of Emergency Medicine as a specialty in the region. At present, the collaboration is involved in multiple initiatives of knowledge dissemination, including ECREM|talks- one of the first podcasts in the UAE dedicated to discussion of Emergency Medicine core content, a Resident Corner reserved to allow physicians to share their personal and professional experiences while working in the region as well as Free Open Access Medical Education (FOAMed) clinical content including instructional videos and images. In addition to this, our Community section features unique opportunities for resident doctors to engage in extracurricular activities, invest in their personal growth and develop friendships and partnerships between other doctors across the country We look forward to working with you to promote our endeavor and are excited to bring you the best Emergency Medicine content from the region!
